Spatial-Temporal Variability of Droughts during Two Cropping Seasons in Sri Lanka and Its Possible Mechanisms

چکیده

Drought management in Sri Lanka is mostly limited to relief provision due the shortage of scientific details develop sufficient drought risk management. Therefore, spatio-temporal variability droughts two cropping seasons, Yala (May–August) and Maha (October–March) Lanka, have been investigated using Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI). The SPEI-4 at August (SPEI-4August) shows an apparent decadal variation over wet, intermediate, dry climate regions country, which coherent with shift rainfall 1999. For season, number events (SPEI-4August < −1) late period (2000–2015) higher than that early (1985–1999). On other hand, SPEI-6March not distinguished; however, (SPEI-6March all less after 2003 as compared period. principle component time series SPEI-4August seasons (r = 0.93) closely associated, implies received season can ascribe observed SPEI-4August. In moisture transport towards weakening 850 hPa wind circulation increasing 500 geopotential height, causes more divergence ultimately affects decreasing country. Meanwhile, especially characterized by large-scale interannual (Nino3.4) decadal-scale (Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), North Atlantic (NAO).

Temporal and Spatial Variability of Droughts in Southwest China from 1961 to 2012

Southwest China (SC) has suffered a series of super extreme droughts in the last decade. This study analyzed the temporal and spatial variations of drought in SC from 1961 to 2012. Based on precipitation anomaly index (PAI) that was derived from 1 km gridded precipitation data, three time scales (month, year and decade) for the drought frequency (DF) and drought area were applied to estimate th...

Spatial and Temporal Variability of Water Quality for Karun River, in Upstream and Downstream Gotvand Dam

In this study, the spatial and temporal variability of water quality including monthly series of TDS, EC, So4, Cl, Ca and Na in common statistical period 1993-2014 was evaluated for the Karun River. This assessment is based on qualitative data stations including Susan in the upstream of Gotvand reservoir, Gotvand, Mollasani and Ahvaz in the downstream. To determine the parameters trend process,...

Spatial-Temporal Clustering Characteristics of Dengue in the Northern Region of Sri Lanka, 2010-2013

Dengue outbreaks are affected by biological, ecological, socio-economic and demographic factors that vary over time and space. These factors have been examined separately and still require systematic clarification. The present study aimed to investigate the spatial-temporal clustering relationships between these factors and dengue outbreaks in the northern region of Sri Lanka. Remote sensing (R...
